Egg Town (Rotorua)

We arrive in Rotorua and the first thing that hits you is the stench. The whole town stinks of eggs this is due to all the volcanic activity and sulphuric acid in the atmosphere. The smell however, can be excused in Rotorua because it’s awesome.

The first thing that is noticeable is the park in the centre with pools of bubbling mud and water emitting steam it’s like nothing I have ever seen. In Rotorua however it’s just the place to walk your dog! Whilst looking at all of these mud pools someone calls across the field to us. It’s a guy called Aiden, he is with Charles and Lars, they had seen us at Hobbiton and came to say hello.
We all decided to stay at the same campsite and chose The Kiwi Packa, hands down the best campsite in the entire world. It’s cheap as chips as well as having a large outdoor swimming pool that maintains a 30 – 40 degree heat because of the underground volcanic activity, so it has its very own hot pool!
After whiling away the night in the hot pool we woke up in the morning and went with the guys we meet to Wai-O-Taupo Thermal Park. First we went to the amazing geezer that shoots out hot water. After we got bored we climbed over the fence and done a dance around the geezer caveman style!
We then actually entered the park and witnessed natural wonders. Pools of acid and sulphur, volcanic rocks all shrouded in gases. Water in orange, green and bright turquoise it was incredible.
Then after one more night in the best campsite ever we continued our journey on to the Glow Worm Caves in Waitomo.
